The benefits of mentorship such as more job promotions, greater career satisfaction and career commitment have been well perceived. However, not all mentorship ends with a success. It is believed that individual differences, in particular personality characteristics, influence the effectiveness of mentoring relationships. Thus, it is worth exploring the role of personality characteristics in mentoring relationships.
In this workshop, the four personality types in Personality Dimensions® will be introduced and a self-assessment will be conducted. Personality Dimensions® will also be used to explore mentees’ different learning and working styles, and develop relevant mentoring strategies. It is expected that the workshop will provide a new perspective to mentors on understanding their mentees.
Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series
Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series is funded by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) on the project of “Development of Effective Pedagogical Practices and a Cross-institutional Online Sharing Platform for Hong Kong's Vocational Education and Training (VET)”. It offers seminars and workshops on a regular basis to keep VPET academic and teaching staff, workplace mentors and VPET stakeholders abreast of the most updated flexible learning, innovative pedagogical practices, competency-based and task-oriented instructional strategies. It also serves the purpose of enhancing peer learning between institutions’ academic and teaching staff and workplace mentors to maximise support to students during their workplace learning and industrial attachment.
