Target Participants

Academic and teaching staff from vocational and professional education and training (VPET) institutions and higher education institutions, VPET workplace mentors, VPET stakeholders and interested members of the public are welcome.

Workshop Outline

Soft skills generally refer to a collection of personality traits, positive attributes, communication abilities and competencies that enhance one’s relationship and performance on the job. In view of the growing importance of soft skills in today’s workplace, this workshop aims to deepen teachers’/mentors’ knowledge and skills in enhancing their students’/mentees’ soft skills in the workplace. Through discussion and activities, participants will learn about the significance of soft skills in the workplace, and gain insight in incorporating four key soft skills – communication skills, problem-solving skills, creativity and team work into their teaching/mentoring.

On completion of this workshop, the participants would be able to:
  • explain the importance of soft skills in the workplace; and
  • discuss the strategies and skills of enhancing the soft skills of students/mentees, particularly communication skills, problem- solving skills, creativity and team work.

Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series

Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series is funded by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) on the project of “Development of Effective Pedagogical Practices and a Cross-institutional Online Sharing Platform for Hong Kong's Vocational Education and Training (VET)”. It offers seminars and workshops on a regular basis to keep VPET academic and teaching staff, workplace mentors and VPET stakeholders abreast of the most updated flexible learning, innovative pedagogical practices, competency-based and task-oriented instructional strategies. It also serves the purpose of enhancing peer learning between institutions’ academic and teaching staff and workplace mentors to maximise support to students during their workplace learning and industrial attachment.
