Workshop Outline

Technology is transforming learning and teaching, including the sector of vocational and professional education and training (VPET). This workshop aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills of building a paperless learning environment by using fundamental functions of Google Classroom and Google Apps in VPET.

Google Classroom is a learning management system that aims to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. Teachers/Trainers can use it to easily assign work to students/trainees, accept assignment submissions, make announcements, supply materials, and more. Some Google Apps can be used to facilitate collaboration among students/trainees and allow teachers/trainers to provide timely feedback.

On completion of this workshop, the participants would be able to:

  • describe the benefits of building a paperless learning environment in VPET;
  • identify the key features of Google Classroom and Google Apps; and
  • use appropriate functions of Google Classroom to create, distribute and grade assignments; and use Google Apps to enhance collaboration and feedback in VPET.

Miss Sherraine Ngan, Google Certified Trainer, demonstrates the key features of Google Classroom to participants.

Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series

Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series is funded by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) on the project of “Development of Effective Pedagogical Practices and a Cross-institutional Online Sharing Platform for Hong Kong's Vocational Education and Training (VET)”. It offers seminars and workshops on a regular basis to keep VPET academic and teaching staff, workplace mentors and VPET stakeholders abreast of the most updated flexible learning, innovative pedagogical practices, competency-based and task-oriented instructional strategies. It also serves the purpose of enhancing peer learning between institutions’ academic and teaching staff and workplace mentors to maximise support to students during their workplace learning and industrial attachment.
