Workshop Outline

Coaching is a different system from training, yet it could be more powerful. It can help staff continuously improve their skills and ability, and boost performance. This 3-hour workshop aims to provide participants with insight and skills to be an effective coach in the workplace via the following focus:

Understanding Staff Peformance and Work Motivation

  • Key roles and challenges of a supervisor – monitoring, planning and work allocation
  • Crucial factors that affect work performance and enthusiasm
  • Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation – its application in the workplace

Effective Coaching and Leading Skills for Better Performance

  • Positive supervision – delivering recognition, trust and expectation
  • Key coaching skills for better performance – practical kit for staff coaching
  • Effective strategies and skills for handling difficult staff
  • Solving common management dilemma and effective decision making

Handling Team Conflict and Building a Motivated Workforce

  • The core elements of a beloved boss and building a harmonious workplace
  • Handling team conflict strategically
  • Strategic communication – positive reframing of negative messages

Discussion and role-play will be conducted in the workshop.

On completion of this workshop, the participants would be able to:

  • describe the factors that affect motivation and work performance;
  • discuss the coaching and leading skills for better performance; and
  • gain tips on the key coaching skills to enhance work relationship.

Dr Suen Lap-man, Principal Consultant of Vital Employee Service Consultancy, presents the effective coaching and leading skills to participants.

Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series

Innovative Pedagogical Strategies in VPET Series is funded by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) on the project of “Development of Effective Pedagogical Practices and a Cross-institutional Online Sharing Platform for Hong Kong's Vocational Education and Training (VET)”. It offers seminars and workshops on a regular basis to keep VPET academic and teaching staff, workplace mentors and VPET stakeholders abreast of the most updated flexible learning, innovative pedagogical practices, competency-based and task-oriented instructional strategies. It also serves the purpose of enhancing peer learning between institutions’ academic and teaching staff and workplace mentors to maximise support to students during their workplace learning and industrial attachment.
